Residential Care

A state of the art nursing home for older people, situated in five acres of private landscaped grounds just a short drive from Cork, Midleton and Carrigtwohill.

Dementia & Alzheimer Care

A specialised and dedicated unit for Alzheimer care and Dementia. Our 21 bed facility caters for persons with advanced cognitive impairment whom require specific care.

Convalescence

Recuperate after an illness or operation in a tranquil setting. With our regular social activities, we provide an excellent alternative to home help or after care.

Short & Long Stay

A stay at Brookfield Care Centre can be either short term or long term. We aim to ensure that whatever the duration of your stay with us is, it is an enjoyable one.

Introduction

Brookfield Care Centre is situated on the outskirts of Leamlara Village in scenic surroundings. Carrigtwohill village and Midleton town are just over 5 minutes drive, whilst the Jack Lynch tunnel is accessible in approximately 15 minutes. The coastline of East Cork with its many beaches, Fota Wild Life Park, Cobh Heritage Centre and numerous golf courses are easily accessible for outings.

The mission of the centre is to provide clinical expertise in a homely environment.

Brookfield Care Centre is a purpose built facility which incorporates the most up to date design and outfitting features. It comprises three units of twenty one beds. Two units are general care while the third is specifically designed for Dementia and Alzheimer Care. Long stay, short stay and convalescence options are available.

Set in a mature five acres of landscaped grounds, the single storey building comprises all single bed rooms and extensive day space. Most bedrooms are en-suite, those without have a larger floor area to accommodate the needs of residents with greater nursing requirements. The decor is comfortable and homely.

Independent, Free & Confidential

Sage representatives are trained volunteers and staff who can listen to you and support you. They are able to collect information that you need so you can make your own decisions, and they can act for you and with you. The resident is the central focus of all our decisions and activities in terms of our service delivery and development.

Holistic Care

We recognise the family as our unit of care and strive to support the resident and family during changing social and health care needs. Our emphasis is on holistic care and we are responsive to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the residents.

Flexibility

We encourage informed decision making on all care related issues and will work with residents to accommodate choice. We act as advocates for our residents and always work with residents to ensure their best interests are safeguarded.

Care Facilities

All admissions to Brookfield Care Centre are planned. The admission process includes a visit to the centre, a pre admission meeting,

completion of a medical pre admission form and in some circumstances a pre-admission assessment visit.

Managing Dementia

Brookfield understands the complex needs of individuals coping with the progression of dementia and the impact this has on family and loved ones.

 

The Owenacurra Unit at Brookfield Care Centre is a small scale Dementia Specific unit which provides a homely and safe environment

where residents and families receive empathy, understanding and support.

 

Staff of the Owenacurra understand the complex needs of ever changing and uncertain time. They are trained to overcome the barriers to

communication and to validate the person and their experiences as perceptions of reality change.

24 Hour Care

There are 14 maximum dependency rooms with additional floor space to accommodate residents requiring full nursing care. There are 46 rooms with en-suite facilities and 3 rooms without. All 63 rooms are equipped with hand washing facilities, call bells and overbed lighting.

Therapy

Pampering comes in many forms, a candlelit hydrotherapy bath with essential oils is perfect for relaxation or just dealing with aches and pains. Massage therapy or reflexology are ideal stress busters. While a visit to the hairdressing salon or podiatrist will perfectly improve the feel good factor.

Privacy & Dignity

All care delivery is underpinned by an ethos of respect for the privacy and dignity of the residents. The availability of single rooms, and above average day and dining space, bathing and toileting facilities aid staff in attaining this objective within the nursing home.

Interaction

Residents are facilitated to maintain hobbies & interests. Contact with families and the extended community are supported. Staff have a responsibility to ensure residents have access to a range of activities appropriate to their personal preferences and abilities.

Available Funding

The Nursing Homes Support Scheme is a scheme of financial support for

people who need long-term nursing home care.

Management

Brookfield is family run therefore there is a strong personal commitment to ensuring all residents are happy and well cared for.

Clodagh Drennan Bohane, Registered Provider. Clodagh is a Registered General Nurse and holds a Masters in Health Services Management through University College Cork. She has had extensive experience in Ireland and the U.K. and has spent a year as Assistant Director of Nursing to St. Patrick’s Hospital/Marymount Hospice and almost six years as Chief Executive Officer of St. Luke’s Home.

Sean Bohane, Director of Support Services. Sean has a background in the construction, media and hospitality industries. He has spent in excess of fourteen years interacting with the public and brings with him a broad range of business experience.

Donal Cahalane is our Director of Nursing/Person in Charge. Trained in CUH in the 90s, Donal has worked in a number of acute and elderly care settings throughout the years. Donal worked as a Clinical Nurse Manager in an acute stroke unit in Whipps Cross hospital and then went on to work in a connected Elderly Rehab Unit as Clinical Nurse Manager. Donal joined Brookfield Care Centre in November 2012 as ADON and in 2015 took up the position of DON in Brookfield Care Centre.

Marguerite Curley Deputy to Registered Provider. Qualified QQI Level 5 Healthcare Assistant with further studies in QQI level 6 Gerontology, Health& Safety Management and Lean 6 Sigma.  Marguerite has a background in Research & Development with over 13 years experience in management and Quality Control.

Staff Education & Development

Management at Brookfield believe the organisation is as strong as each individual part. To strengthen our service we provide to our residents,

there is a substantial financial and time commitment toward the enhancement of staff’s knowledge and skills within the nursing home.

 

A training plan is drafted on an annual basis to ensure access to health and safety, dementia specific care, person centeredness, infection

control, protection of vulnerable adults, quality and management plus a variety of clinical topics. We aim to ensure all Nursing Assistants

have a minimum of QQI Level 5 certification and all Registered Nurses follow a structured plan for professional development.

 

A system of pre-employment vetting and ongoing performance auditing is in place. The greatest requirements we look for in our staff is

empathy and compassion. We believe these are essential cornerstones and educational building blocks within the nursing environment.
